We think several issues today are important to not only the mastino, but to all dog breeds and owners alike. BSL- Breed Specific Legislation- BSL should be a major concern for every pet owner, breeder, and citizen out there! There is a huge difference between animal rights and animal welfare. Groups like PETA and HSUS are considered animal rights. They are out there trying to take away your right to even own a pet! Please do not send your hard earned money to groups like this- they use it to campaign and push lobbyists and politicians into designing laws to TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHTS!! Animal welfare groups are typically the good guys- generally rescue groups. They are the one's that actually help dogs in need! Donate and help out these wonderful organizations like NeoRescue Inc. all you can! Pit Bulls are a wonderful breed of dog that should not be discriminated against! But BSL doesn't just target pit bulls! It targets other wonderful breeds like the rottweiler, doberman, american bulldogs, american staffordshire terriers, and even one day our own mastino! Did you know that there are whole towns that have weight limits on dogs? Did you know that in cities like Denver Colorado police can knock on your door and confiscate your dog? Just because of it's breed!
Irresponsible owners will be the downfall of the entire dog owning population. BSL is becoming more real every day. TRAIN YOUR DOGS! It doesn't cost you one cent to take your pup to Petsmart. Not one dime to make him sit 20 times for treats in the grocery store parking lot. If you are not willing to take your dog to obedience classes- don't get a dog. If you just don't have time, or if it is too expensive- maybe you shouldn't own a dog. You don't have to go for the best trainer in town that costs $200 for a 6 week class! Check around. Most small kennel clubs offer classes, as do community colleges- at reduced prices even! One night a week and 15 minutes a day is all it takes to save your dog and have a healthy, happy well rounded pet! |
